First it was Côte d’Ivoire, then it was Senegal, then it was Democratic Republic of Congo, then it was Cape Verde, and now it’s Egypt. 

Too much pain, frankly. This World Cup is cruel.

But it’s something worth celebrating as well—African football has come along. 

African teams used to be blown out of the water when it came to facing elite teams. 

Now they are competitive. 

Really, they just need to fix losing leads in the last few minutes of games. 

That’s it.

They will be good. It’s progress worth recognizing.
